A dangerous, yet consequential crime wave is happening across left-wing cities in America. Communities like Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, and others are seeing lawlessness go through the roof. This comes as a result of Democrats either defunding the police or otherwise impeding the ability for police officers to effectively do their jobs.

San Francisco is an excellent, yet unfortunate, example of the latter. In San Francisco, police are barred from intervening with so-called "petty crime" amounting to less than $950. Since this decision, viral footage of a masked shoplifter loading store merchandise into a garbage bag (and then leaving the store without paying) has spread across social media sites. As a result, several San Francisco establishments are shutting their doors.

The crime wave is undeniable, as is its root cause; however, Democrats have a very different spin. The left believes that gun control is the answer; on Friday, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy strongly rebutted this false narrative.

McCarthy on Democrats' role in crime increases

The House Minority Leader spoke at length about crime rises in the United States during a segment of the Megyn Kelly Show. McCarthy noted that by pushing for more gun control after defunding police, Democrats are stripping all forms of protection from Americans.

He continued further. McCarthy detailed a recent conversation that he had with a small business owner.

He noted that this business owner feels unsafe as a result of defunded police and crime on the rise; the business owner's anxiety and concerns are furthered by Democrats moving to complicate the path to gun ownership. Like many other Americans, this individual ultimately feels defenseless.

Conservatives' warnings proven right

From the inception of the defund the police movement, conservatives warned that it would not end well. Now, as communities face record jumps in crime, some leaders, such as Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, seek to reinstate police funding. Certain cities even want to increase police funding from its original rates.

As Biden pushes for more gun control, states are pushing back. Already, several Republican governors have passed orders barring state officials from enforcing Biden's federal executive actions on gun control.
