The Cartersville facility will complement Qcells’ existing solar manufacturing plant in Dalton, Georgia, located about 50 miles to the north. Since its opening in 2019, the Dalton facility has expanded to support 5.1 gigawatts of annual production.

Qcells’ Commitment to U.S. Solar Manufacturing

“Our federal manufacturing incentives are driving economic development across the state of Georgia,” said U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., in a statement Thursday.

In its own statement, Qcells emphasized its investment of more than $2.5 billion to boost domestic solar manufacturing, with the goal of reaching an annual production capacity of 8.4 gigawatts in Georgia by the end of the year.

Qcells acknowledged the challenges posed by low-priced imports in the solar market but stressed the importance of ongoing support from federal initiatives like the Inflation Reduction Act. The company underscored the need for continued efforts from all levels of government to ensure the long-term success of domestic solar manufacturing.
