President Donald Trump has only sharpened his rhetoric since the operation. He again accused Colombia’s president of “making cocaine” and reiterated earlier warnings, declaring that the leader “does need to watch his ass.” Trump added ominously, “We will be talking about Cuba.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio reinforced the administration’s stance. “Look, if I lived in Havana and I worked in the government, I’d be concerned,” Rubio said during a press conference, comments echoed in coverage by outlets such as Reuters and The New York Times.

During a phone interview with Fox News (foxnews.com), Trump expanded the scope of U.S. ambitions, warning that “something will have to be done about Mexico.” He said he had asked Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum whether she wanted U.S. military “help” in dismantling drug cartels.

“American dominance in the Western hemisphere will never be questioned again,” Trump declared.

“All nations of the region must remain alert, as the threat hangs overall,” the Cuban government said in a statement.

International Condemnation at the United Nations

Cuba’s ambassador to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, condemned the raid during an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting, accusing Washington of having “attacked Venezuela with total brutality and treachery.”
