Parkland Mayor Christine Hunschofsky told NBC Miami, “It’s sad. It’s sad that these tragedies happen in our country. Many of the students have been in touch with their parents. We have many, many parents out here.”
In an interview with CNN, U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida said the shooter left a number of fatalities. The senator had a conversation with the superintendent of schools. The senator said, “This is a bad day for Florida and the country.”
Florida Gov. Scott is receiving updates from law enforcement
On the other hand, Florida Gov. Rick Scott tweeted that he is receiving updates regarding the school shooting from law enforcement. He also spoke with President Donald Trump regarding the incident. He offered prayers for the students, their families, and the entire community.

Meanwhile, the White House canceled its afternoon press briefing after learning about the Florida shooting. The President is monitoring the situation, according to White House spokeswoman Lindsey Walters.
