Fourth suspect arrested for the road rage killing of a Korean community leader in Dallas

Keeton Sheppard, 34, was the fourth suspect taken into custody on Tuesday, February 22 for his alleged role in the murder which took place on South University Drive at around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 15, 2022.

Jin Shin, a 43-year-old Korean community leader and business owner in Dallas, was fatally shot in what appears to be a road rage incident.

The incident reportedly started when Shin's Jeep hit the rear of a sedan resulting in a minor collision.

Several vehicles, including a Chrysler with Markynn Dmorous West as a passenger, pulled up at the scene. West has been charged as the shooter after a confrontation.

Eight people reportedly surrounded Shin, punching, chasing him, and preventing him from returning to his car. His keys were stolen from him.

At some point, Shin managed to retrieve a handgun from his vehicle, but the police report states that he kept it pointed down and never used it during the incident. West then allegedly took out his own gun and chased Shin. He then fired multiple shots killing Shin.

West was the first suspect arrested in the case.  Kameron Taylor, Quamon Deshun White, and Keeton Sheppard were all arrested at separate times.

The exact roles of Taylor, White, and Sheppard are still unclear. But similar to West, they all face murder charges.

Jin Shin: Korean community leader

Shin, a Korean immigrant served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He obtained his business degree from Western Governors University. He ran a family karaoke and co-owned a Korean restaurant. And had been a pillar of the Dallas Asian community.

In the months leading up to his death, Shin had started a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to help victims of the May 11 Hair World Salon shooting.

His friends describe him as a kind-hearted and sincere individual who had made an impact on many people.

The fundraiser, which has collected $100,534 as of this writing, will be used to cover his funeral and legal fees. Any excess amounts will be given to his daughter, who is 14 years old.

The fatal shooting of Jin Shin is a tragic reminder of the ongoing violence and discrimination faced by Asian Americans in the United States.

The investigation into the incident continues. And Shin's family, friends, and the Dallas Asian community continue to mourn his loss and seek justice for his death.
