[FLORIDA] – Former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz has hinted that he may expose lawmakers who he claims made “#MeToo” payoffs with public funds. This revelation comes amid the imminent release of the House Ethics Committee report into his conduct.

Gaetz admitted on Wednesday, “In my single days, I often sent funds to women I dated – even some I never dated but who asked. I dated several of these women for years. I NEVER had sexual contact with someone under 18. Any claim that I have would be destroyed in court – which is why no such claim was ever made in court.”

Gaetz, 42, who dropped out of the running to be named attorney general in president-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet, played with the idea in a multi-point plan “someone suggested” to him in a post on X. One of the potential actions included that he would return to Congress and “file a privileged motion to expose every ‘me too’ settlement paid using public funds (even of former members),” referring to the movement that took off in 2017 in which women began to speak out about being sexually harassed, abused, and assaulted.

Implications for Politics and Law

The implications of Gaetz exposing lawmakers who have used public funds to pay off #MeToo claimants are profound. Such a move could lead to a significant shake-up in the political landscape, as it would bring to light the misuse of public funds and potentially expose unethical behavior among lawmakers. This could result in increased scrutiny of public officials and a push for greater transparency and accountability in government.

Gaetz’s Bold Move

Another point in Gaetz’s plan would involve “showing up” to Congress on January 3 to “participate in the Speaker election,” apparently to help replace current GOP Speaker Mike Johnson. His fifth and final point would be to “Resign and start my @OANN program at 9pm EST on January 6, 2025.” Gaetz has been hired by OANN to host his own program.

House Ethics Committee members are expected to publicly release the results of their report after the final day of voting in the House of Representatives this week as lawmakers prepare to leave Washington, D.C., for the holidays.

Gaetz has said, “My 30’s were an era of working very hard – and playing hard too. It’s embarrassing, though not criminal, that I probably partied, womanized, drank, and smoked more than I should have earlier in life. I live a different life now. But at least I didn’t vote for CR’s that fuck over the country!”
