During a news conference on Monday, First Assistant Northwestern District Attorney Steven Gagne shared that the woman’s remains had been exposed to the elements for several months before being found on November 15, 1978.

Tragically, the woman had been fatally shot in the head, and her death was officially classified as a homicide, according to Gagne.

As her identity remained a mystery for many years, she was laid to rest in a Granby cemetery under a headstone that bore the word “Unknown”, as Gagne noted.
