In late December 2025, the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, which had caused worldwide fascination and media coverage, changed its trajectory from initial expectations.
The YouTube video “3I/ATLAS Is CHANGING Course — Scientists Are Seriously Worried!” appears to reflect and amplify this continued controversy.
What Is 3I/ATLAS?
3I/ATLAS (designation C/2025 N1) was discovered on July 1, 2025, by the ATLAS telescope network in Chile. Its hyperbolic trajectory confirms that it originated outside the solar system—a characteristic that makes it only the third interstellar object (ISO) ever observed after ’Oumuamua in 2017 and 2I/Borisov in 2019.
NASA and international astronomers classify 3I/ATLAS as an interstellar comet—an object with an icy nucleus and a surrounding coma of gas and dust released as the Sun warms its surface. It reached its closest approach to the Sun (perihelion) on October 30, 2025, and made its closest approach to Earth on December 19, 2025, passing safely at about 1.8 astronomical units (roughly 168–270 million miles).
