Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS Grows Tail After Anti-Tail Phase, Fueling Debate Over Harvard Scientist’s Alien Craft Theory
Loeb has proposed that if 3I/ATLAS is indeed an alien spacecraft executing a deceleration maneuver, the anti-tail would represent evidence of braking thrust as the craft slowed its approach. The subsequent appearance of a traditional tail, he suggests, would naturally follow as the braking procedure concluded and the object continued its trajectory under different conditions. This succession from anti-tail to tail, Loeb contends, fits the profile of controlled maneuvering rather than the typical behavior of a natural comet or asteroid.
The astrophysicist has characterized the scenario as a potential high-impact Black Swan event, referring to the concept of a rare, unpredictable occurrence with massive consequences. While most astronomers remain cautious about attributing artificial origins to celestial objects, the unusual composition of 3I/ATLAS’s anti-tail and its behavioral patterns have made Loeb’s predictions increasingly difficult to dismiss outright.
The scientific community is currently awaiting the release of images captured by NASA’s HiRISE camera aboard the Mars orbiter when 3I/ATLAS passed within 12 million miles of the Red Planet earlier this month. These images would represent the highest resolution views of the object obtained to date and could provide crucial evidence to either support or refute theories about its nature. However, the ongoing federal government shutdown has delayed the space agency’s release of this data, leaving researchers around the world in suspense.
