Across the country, political animosity is about as heated as it’s been in history. Polling shows that many Americans on both sides of the aisle widely view those with opposing politics as the enemy.

This, alone, helps make the case that the divide between the left wing and the right wing is ripping the nation apart. Some people are deciding they don’t want to be part of it.

Earlier this year, former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard re-registered as an Independent. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona is now the latest politician to leave a major political party (this one being the Democrat Party) and register as an Independent.

What to know about Sinema becoming an Independent

During conversations with the media, the Arizona lawmaker hasn’t minced words about what inspired her decision. Sinema noted that she’s never fit neatly in the box of one political party and doesn’t especially want to.

Furthermore, the Independent congresswoman said putting distance between herself and the “partisan structure” will resonate with many constituents in her state; that comes in addition to others who are tired of hyperpartisanship.
