The lawsuit is currently centered around a statement released by the Laundries’ attorney, Steven Bertolino, on September 14, 2021, which was misleading to Petito’s family. And they now believe the Laundries knew their daughter was dead when they issued the statement.
The statement:
“This is understandably an extremely difficult time for both the Petito family and the Laundrie family.”
“It is our understanding that a search has been organized for Miss Petito in or near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. On behalf of the Laundrie family, it is our hope that the search for Miss Petito is successful and that Miss Petito is reunited with her family.”
On the advice of counsel, the Laundrie family is remaining in the background at this juncture and will have no further comment.”
The lawsuit argues that it was “insensitive, cold-hearted, and outrageous” and caused emotional distress to Petito’s family. And worst of all it led them to believe that Gabby could still be alive when the Laundries allegedly knew she was already dead.
