Earlier this year, GOP Rep. Liz Cheney voted in favor of impeaching then-President Trump for supposedly inciting the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6. Although the House of Representatives ultimately didn't garner enough votes to impeach the former president for a second time, Cheney's made clear that she's no fan of Trump.

Since Trump's departure from office, questions have arisen regarding the true leader of the Republican Party. Many people perceive Trump as the GOP's leader; however, Cheney, the GOP House Conference Chairwoman, does not share this view.

The Wyoming Republican declared earlier this year that GOP congressional leaders Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy are the party's heads, rather than Trump.

Last week, the former president put out a statement citing the 2020 election as "rigged"; Cheney weighed in with her thoughts about this statement earlier on Monday morning.

This morning, the House Conference Chairwoman declared on Twitter that the 2020 presidential election wasn't stolen.

Cheney then proceeded, stating that claims otherwise are "the big lie"; these remarks came before Cheney slammed skeptics of the 2020 race as responsible for "poisoning" U.S. democracy and rejecting America's rule of law.

Trump's latest statement about the "rigging" of the 2020 race occurred after news of Maricopa County, Arizona's ballot recount. Republicans have lauded the recount; meanwhile, Democrats are slamming the Arizona recount as unnecessary and wasteful.

Earlier this morning, the 45th president additionally put out a press release describing the 2020 election as "the big lie" and "fraudulent."

Will Cheney remain a House GOP leader?

Last month, reports surfaced that House Republican leaders are growing exasperated with Cheney and therefore looking to oust her from serving as the House Conference Chairwoman.

One House Republican lawmaker spoke to the press over the weekend. The GOP official stated that Cheney is "alienating" herself from other Republicans and currently "out of sync."

Interestingly enough, this Republican congressmember stated that the exasperation with Cheney is completely removed from her views on Trump or her vote to impeach him. Ultimately, at least some House Republicans believe that Cheney is more focused on the past than the present.

Trump, meanwhile, maintains that he'll support whichever Republican runs to replace Cheney.
