The shooting suspect has been identified as an “Asian male.” And used a high-powered assault rifle at close range.
The shooting took place on Lunar New Year’s Eve East of downtown Los Angeles.
Monterey Park was hosting the Monterey Park Lunar New Year Festival this weekend, marking the beginning of the Chinese lunar calendar. The annual two-day street festival draws tens of thousands of celebrants. This is one of the biggest events in the LA region.
More than 65% of Monterey Park’s 60,000 residents identify as Asian American, per the U.S. Census Bureau.
On Saturday January 21, 2023 at 10:22 PM the suspect male/adult/Asian pictured above was involved in a shooting. Investigators have identified him as a Homicide suspect and he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Just last week at a Martin Luther King Jr Day celebration, eight people were wounded and one died when a suspected 2 shooters opened fire. Four others were injured in the stampede to escape the bullet barrage.
Mass Shooting in Goshen farming community
The Monterey Park shootings came just five days after six people were murdered in Tulare County in California’s Central Valley in the Goshen farming community.
