On Thursday, former First Lady Michelle Obama spoke out regarding calls for her to run for President, reports The Hill.

Obama on a Potential Presidential Run

Despite encouragement from some Democratic voters, Michelle Obama has firmed stated that she has no plans to pursue the Oval Office. She delivered the hereinafter statements in Boston:

"The reason why I don't want to run for president, I can't speak for Oprah, but my sense is that first of all you have to want the job. You can't just say, 'You're a woman, run.' And we can't look for women like that. We can't just say let's find the women we like and ask them to do it. There are a million women who are inclined and who do have the passion for politics."

"Just because I gave a good speech, and I'm smart and intelligent doesn't mean I should be the next President. That's been our problem. We're very shortsighted about how we think about selecting the Commander-In-Chief."

Talk About Obama Running for Office

Speculations and calls for Michelle Obama to run for President followed after she spoke at 2016's Democratic National Convention. Similarly to Oprah, many Americans lauded what they viewed as well-delivered remarks.

The Americans who support Obama also believe that she could possibly defeat President Trump in during the 2020 run for office when the latter seeks re-election. However, the President's base has strongly pushed back against claims that Obama could defeat Trump. Nevertheless, like Oprah, Obama has clearly articulated that she has no desires or plans to run for office. How long this persists remains to be seen.

Many of the President's critics and political adversaries have scrambled to find potential candidates who they believe could take on the Commander-in-Chief in 2020. Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey have been named, as have Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and other leftist politicians.

Talk of a potential Sanders/Warren 2020 ticket has furthermore surfaced. However, the majority of conservatives, Republicans, and Trump supporters remain convinced that such a ticket would automatically guarantee a landslide victory for President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
