Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., alongside over 30 Democratic colleagues, introduced a bill on Thursday aimed at overturning the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision granting former President Donald Trump immunity for official acts.
Bill Seeks Accountability for Presidents and Vice Presidents
The proposed legislation, known as the No Kings Act, asserts that presidents and vice presidents should not have immunity for criminal acts. It also removes the Supreme Court’s ability to challenge the constitutionality of this legislation and introduces additional measures to ensure accountability for these high offices.
“Given the dangerous and consequential implications of the court’s ruling, legislation would be the fastest and most efficient method to correcting the grave precedent the Trump ruling presented,” Schumer stated.
