Hip-hop mogul Sean Diddy Combs was sentenced to more than four years in prison on Friday following his conviction for transporting women across state lines to engage in prostitution.

The case, which involved allegations of drug-fueled sex marathons, has drawn national attention and renewed scrutiny of how federal laws are applied in cases involving celebrities.

Fed Judge Sentences Sean Diddy Combs to 50-Month Sentence

In Manhattan federal court, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to 50 months — four years and two months — behind bars, along with a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release after his prison term.

Federal prosecutors had sought more than 11 years in prison, citing the gravity of the crimes, while the defense argued for no more than 14 months. The maximum sentence under the law was 20 years.

Judge Subramanian explained the reasoning behind the sentence:

“A substantial sentence is needed to send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.”
