NEW YORK, May 20 (USA Herald) — The federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs took a bizarre turn Tuesday when a former employee testified that he witnessed the notorious music mogul ingest an ecstasy pill shaped like the face of former President Barack Obama. The shocking detail adds a provocative spiritual dimension to the already explosive allegations against Combs, who is accused of running a secretive network of drug-fueled sexual rituals, coercion, and abuse.

David James, Combs’ personal assistant from 2007 to 2009, testified in Manhattan federal court that he frequently witnessed his boss taking drugs, including opiates and ecstasy. But it was one pill in particular that stunned the courtroom. “It was shaped like a former president’s face,” James told the jury. When pressed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik, James clarified: “President Obama.”

According to Haitian voodoo belief, objects bearing the likeness or spirit of a person can be used to summon or channel that person—or what they represent. That includes images, clothing, or even symbolic items. Combs’ choice to consume a pill bearing Obama’s face while also being a back-tattoo with the image of Ezili Dantor, identified in the culture as a voodoo spirit also known as the Black Madonna of Częstochowa, is now raising serious questions about whether ritualistic practices were interwoven with the rapper’s alleged sex trafficking enterprise.

Diddy first revealed his tattoo of Ezili Dantor in 2017, describing the dark, feminine deity as a protective force watching his back. Ezili is revered in Haitian voodoo as a protector of women, children, and the LGBTQIA+ community. But folklore also describes her wrath as catastrophic to those who betray or harm those under her protection.

Now, with Diddy accused of orchestrating years-long sexual rituals known as “Freak Offs,” in which women were allegedly drugged and coerced into sexual acts for his entertainment and control, the irony of bearing Ezili Dantor’s image is stark. Prosecutors have argued that Combs used his influence, money, and drugs to turn hotels and his own home into ritual grounds for control, submission, and manipulation.

According to former girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who gave tearful testimony last week, Combs blackmailed her with sex tapes and coerced her into sex acts with male exotic dancers while he watched. One such dancer, Sharay Hayes—also known by his stage name “The Punisher”—testified that he was paid thousands in cash to engage with Cassie while Combs directed the encounters.

Prosecutors allege that these Freak Offs occurred regularly between 2004 and 2024. Drugs were allegedly supplied by Combs’ employees. Rooms were prepared in advance. Cash was handed over to sex workers. According to James, the staff was trained to anticipate Diddy’s moods and preferences.

Ventura’s mother, Regina Ventura, testified that in 2011, Combs demanded $20,000 from her family to cover expenses after discovering Cassie was seeing another man. When she refused, he threatened to release sex tapes and to have her harmed. Photographs showing bruises on Cassie’s body were entered into evidence, as was an email in which she told her mother she feared for her life.

Despite all this, Combs’ defense team maintains the sexual conduct was consensual. They cited messages from Ventura indicating willingness and enjoyment during the encounters. Hayes, too, under cross-examination, admitted Ventura appeared to consent at times, though her body language was at times ambiguous.

The introduction of an ecstasy pill made in the likeness of former President Obama into the courtroom testimony is more than just a shocking detail—it may point to a ritualistic aspect of Combs’ lifestyle that prosecutors have yet to fully explore.

In voodoo tradition, possession by spirits known as lwa is achieved by invoking their energy through symbols, chants, or physical representations. The ingestion of Obama-faced ecstasy, coupled with Ezili Dantor permanently etched into his skin, could suggest an attempt at invoking power, reverence, or transformation through symbolic ritual.

Observers of the trial were quick to point out that Diddy has recently been seen reading the Bible during trial breaks. To some, it appears contradictory: a man with a voodoo goddess on his back and an ecstasy-fueled lifestyle now turning the pages of the bible. Others believe this is merely another layer of spiritual confusion surrounding a man facing a lifetime in prison.

Some fans have speculated that Diddy unknowingly brought spiritual misfortune upon himself by inscribing Ezili Dantor on his back without understanding the consequences. The goddess is known to destroy those who violate her values. If the allegations against him are true, Diddy may be the embodiment of that violation.

In one especially eerie twist, one of Diddy’s alleged survivors, Dawn Richard, posted a photograph of herself dressed as Ezili Dantor during Mardi Gras in 2022. The symbolism is difficult to ignore.

Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and forced labor. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
