The investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie continues to expand, with federal and local authorities executing a court-approved search warrant and briefly detaining a second individual in connection with the case.
Guthrie, the mother of television journalist Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona home in the early hours of Feb. 1. Investigators believe she may have been abducted.
On Saturday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a residence near Guthrie’s home was searched under a federal court order after investigators followed up on a lead. No arrests were made during the operation.
Authorities also conducted a traffic stop during the investigation and questioned an individual. That person was later released without charges. Officials emphasized that the inquiry remains active and ongoing.
Law enforcement is urging anyone with information to contact authorities. A reward of up to $100,000 is being offered for information that leads to Guthrie’s location or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
Late Friday into early Saturday, investigators briefly detained a second man while searching a property a short drive from Guthrie’s Catalina Foothills neighborhood. Sources familiar with the investigation described the action as part of efforts to track and verify leads.
The individual was questioned and released, becoming the second person detained in connection with the case but not charged. Earlier in the week, another man in Rio Rico, Arizona, was also detained and released.
Sheriff Chris Nanos has stated publicly that no one is considered fully cleared until an arrest is made.
Deputies blocked off a residential street roughly two miles from Guthrie’s home as part of investigative activity tied to the case. Officers worked through rainy conditions while limiting public access to the area.
Officials have asked residents within a defined radius of Guthrie’s home to review surveillance footage recorded between Jan. 1 and Feb. 2. Investigators are particularly interested in identifying unfamiliar vehicles or individuals that may have been captured on camera during that period.
Earlier in the investigation, the FBI released surveillance images showing a masked individual appearing to tamper with a security camera outside Guthrie’s residence. Authorities have not publicly identified the person shown in the footage.
Investigators continue to analyze evidence collected from the scene, including materials that may contain forensic traces. Officials have not disclosed specific findings but have indicated that laboratory testing is underway.
