This week, McCarthy also invited President Biden to deliver a State of the Union Address in February. This is an invitation that the president has since formally accepted.
A balanced Congress
Before McCarthy’s election earlier this year, the GOP-led House remained in limbo. As it turns out, there are many steps forward the chamber cannot take until after a House Speaker is chosen.
With McCarthy now in position, Republicans are best positioned to ensure Congress is balanced. This means Democrats who want to get bills passed will need the support of some Republicans in the House.
Before, when Democrats completely controlled Congress, they resorted to passing legislation on party vote alone multiple times. With that monopoly broken, the system of checks and balances has finally been restored to the federal government.
