Scherkenbach, who has worked with Swift on numerous tours, including the Eras Tour, expressed that these bonuses were unprecedented.
“She’s giving a sum of money that is life-changing for these people,” Scherkenbach said.
“A lot of these drivers are not homeowners, and a lump sum like this gives you the ability to put a down payment on a home. That’s what makes me really happy. That generosity is a game changer for these people.”
Bonuses worth millions to Eras tour crew
Swift’s bonuses extended beyond the truck drivers. She also gave bonuses to band members, dancers, lighting and sound technicians, caterers, and other crew members. Total bonuses of all tour personnel including the truckers is estimated to be $75 million.
Compared to artists of similar fame, who typically offer bonuses ranging from $5,000 to $10,000, Swift’s act of kindness stands out as incredibly generous.
Mike Scherkenbach recalled how Swift’s appreciation for her crew was evident even during the filming of the documentary for her previous tour, Reputation, for Netflix. In a surprise move, she listed her drivers in the movie credits.
