The Sphere, a technological marvel in itself, stood as a canvas for a pop-culture kaleidoscope of images scrolling up its 366-foot screen. From rapid-fire visuals during “Even Better Than the Real Thing” to quieter moments with monochromatic backdrops, the production expertly intertwined technology with U2’s performance.

Tech Magic and the Real Magic

The real magic unfolded when the production chose simplicity, allowing a monochromatic blue backdrop or a starry night sky to complement quieter songs. The Sphere never overshadowed U2. It magnified the band’s presence, creating a unique visual spectacle for each song.

U2’s opening night performance at Sphere was nothing short of spectacular.  The screen became a dynamic backdrop, featuring helicopters flying overhead and the nearby Grand Canyon.

At 366 feet tall by 516 feet wide the venue is big enough to fit the Statue of Liberty making it the world’s largest spherical structure.

A tangible illusion added to the magic as Bono grabbed a seemingly illustrated rope from the sky, inviting a fan to swing on it during “Tryin’ to Throw Your Arms Around the World.”
