Terrorists at the border
Homeland can only analyze the risk of people that they encounter. With the wide-open situation at the Southern border, it is hard to estimate how many migrants entered the U.S. without being stopped or “encountered” by the Border Patrol.
The recent capture of the two Iranian nationals with links to terrorism set off alarm bells within U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Both individual’s names were on the Terrorist Screening Database. This underscores the significance of the security threat they potentially pose.
These arrests come amidst growing concerns about border security and the effectiveness of measures in place to prevent such incursions.
The Department of Homeland Security has been actively monitoring the situation and previously warned about an increasing number of individuals on the U.S. terrorist watchlist encountered at the border.
Hamas attacks heighten threats
The report further indicated that the Department of Homeland Security anticipates that the threat of violence from individuals radicalized in the United States will remain high, with the potential for lone offenders or small group attacks that occur with minimal warning.
