Trump to Nominate Marco Rubio as Secretary of State

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly set to nominate Florida Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State. According to a source, Trump remains committed to offering the position to Rubio; however, he could still make a last-minute change. Rubio has represented Florida in the Senate since 2010, bringing valuable foreign policy experience to the table. This decision, therefore, reflects Rubio’s influence in the GOP and his alignment with Trump on key international issues, especially regarding Israel and NATO.

Rubio’s Foreign Policy Experience

Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, first gained prominence in the Senate as part of the Tea Party movement. Known for his strong views on foreign policy, Rubio serves on both the Senate Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committees. Additionally, he is a known “foreign policy hawk,” advocating for U.S. alliances and a firm stance on threats to American interests. Recently, Rubio has aligned with Trump on many issues, including limiting aid to Ukraine and showing solid support for Israel in the Middle East.

From 2016 Rivals to 2024 Allies

Although Rubio and Trump were once rivals in the 2016 Republican primary, their relationship has evolved significantly. Despite their past clashes, Rubio has gradually become a key supporter of Trump, frequently aligning with him on various issues. This shift marks Rubio’s transition from former opponent — whom Trump once called “Little Marco” — to a potential cabinet member. If confirmed, Rubio would also make history as the first Latino Secretary of State.

Strong GOP Support for Rubio

The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) has already expressed enthusiastic support for Rubio’s possible nomination. RJC National Chairman Norm Coleman and CEO Matt Brooks noted that they have complete confidence in Rubio’s leadership at the State Department. They emphasized that Rubio’s dedication to U.S. allies and strong stance on Israeli interests are critical in these challenging times. “With Senator Rubio at the helm, America will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our allies,” they stated.

Trump’s Cabinet Picks Continue

Rubio’s expected role as Secretary of State is part of Trump’s broader effort to build a cabinet focused on key national issues. In recent days, Trump nominated several high-profile figures for crucial positions. Among them are Rep. Elise Stefanik, whom Trump chose as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and former ICE Director Tom Homan, who will take on the role of “border czar.” Additionally, Trump named Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida as National Security Advisor and former Congressman Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
