Gun Industry Faces Cooling Demand

The broader firearms market has also begun to cool.

“The industry’s fortunes tend to rise and fall based on the country’s political climate,” reported The Wall Street Journal.

During the Obama years, gun purchases climbed sharply amid fears of regulatory crackdowns. But demand softened after Donald Trump entered the White House pledging to protect gun rights.

More recently, sales have continued sliding.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation reported that firearm sales fell 4.1% in 2025 to roughly 14.6 million units, down from more than 15.2 million in 2024. The data was cited by the National Rifle Association publication American Rifleman.

Analysts say the slowdown began raising alarms last year.

“Slow demand was expected, but slow reaction is not,” said Kaleb Seymour, vice president of data and analytics at Gearfire, speaking to SGB Media.

“The third quarter was a wake-up call,” Seymour said. “The question now is who will adjust before year-end and who will get caught waiting.”

Umbrella Armory, it appears, was among those caught in the market’s sudden downturn.

Inside the Company’s Financial Troubles

Financial filings reveal just how thin the company’s cash reserves had become.

Umbrella Armory reported holding only $1,880.63 across two business checking accounts, according to EdHat Santa Barbara.

Its debt structure includes a secured loan of $94,601.40 from the U.S. Small Business Administration, listed through the agency’s Office of General Counsel in Los Angeles.

The company also listed several unsecured debts.

Those include $6,000 owed to the California Franchise Tax Board and $470.57 owed to the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration.

Additionally, Umbrella Armory reported $45,000 in credit card debt to Bank of America, along with smaller outstanding balances to Frontier Communications and Warmington Properties Inc. for services and back rent.

The company has halted gun sales through its website but says it continues offering smaller replacement parts.

Post-Pandemic Market Reality

Analysts say the pandemic-era surge in gun buying created a wave of one-time customers — many of whom have now stepped away from the market.

“During the pandemic, people were worried about societal collapse in one way or another,” said Dru Stevenson, a law professor at South Texas College of Law Houston, speaking to CNBC.

“If you didn’t own a gun and decided you needed one for self-defense, you went and bought it — and now you’re done,” Stevenson said.

That one-time buying spree may now be haunting manufacturers and retailers alike.
