Voyager Technologies Eyes $1.6 Billion IPO Riding the Defense Tech Surge

Voyager Technologies is aiming to capitalize on growing investor interest in defense and space innovation with plans for a $319 million initial public offering (IPO) that could value the company at $1.6 billion, according to its SEC filing.
Riding the Defense and Space Tech Boom
Founded in 2019, Voyager Technologies—formerly Voyager Space—has transitioned from a space-focused firm to a broader defense technology leader. The rebranding reflects a strategic shift to emphasize applications such as precision-guided missile systems and advanced interceptor technology. The company is best known for Starlab, its low-Earth orbit commercial space station project backed by $200 million from NASA and developed in collaboration with Airbus, Mitsubishi, MDA Space, and Palantir (source).
“We believe this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to align U.S. technological superiority with a growing appetite for defense and space innovation,” said one early investor from Marlinspike Ventures.
Voyager Technologies fell 12% on Thursday to $49.50, a day after the company made its trading debut. The stock opened Wednesday at $69.95, 126% higher than its initial offering price of $31, and ended the session up 82% at $56.48.

Political Momentum and Private Sector Support
Voyager’s IPO comes at a time of renewed interest in defense modernization. During his second inaugural address, President Donald Trump committed to expanding American space ambitions, saying the U.S. would "plant the Stars and Stripes on the planet Mars." Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed support for integrating tech into modern warfare.
Private capital is following suit. Notable defense investors, including Industrious Ventures, Scout Ventures, and Marlinspike, have backed Voyager, while the Department of Defense has launched funding initiatives aimed at startups born out of U.S. universities.

Navigating a Narrow IPO Window
Although the IPO market has been sluggish, firms like Chime, Circle, and Hinge Health have recently made public moves. Bankers warn that market volatility and political uncertainty are closing the IPO window quickly. According to Business Insider, bankers are urging startups to "get their IPOs done fast."
Voyager’s financials reflect its early growth phase: Q1 2025 net sales reached $34.5 million, up 14% year-over-year, but net losses nearly doubled to $27 million, per the SEC filing.
Trading and Outlook
Voyager's shares will trade under the ticker "VOYG" on the New York Stock Exchange, with Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan leading the offering. If successful, Voyager will join a short list of public companies riding a defense tech boom fueled by both political momentum and investor enthusiasm.
