On Friday, Hamas freed two U.S. hostages it has been holding in Gaza. Israel reported it was the first release from an estimated 200 people from various countries. The terrorist group Hamas abducted them from Israel during its Oct. 7 rampage.
There are still ten more American hostages that are unaccounted for. In the ongoing conflict, the State Department has reported that 32 Americans have lost their lives.
Hamas claims it released the hostages for humanitarian reasons in an agreement with the Qatari government.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed gratitude to the Qatari government for their assistance in the hostage release but did not provide specific details about their involvement.
President Joe Biden, in a statement, praised the continuous efforts to secure the release of American citizens held by Hamas, acknowledging the tireless work done since the start of the conflict. He joined Blinken in commending Qatar’s role in this positive development.
