OpenAI Eyes a Staggering New Valuation

According to a Tuesday report from The Financial Times, OpenAI is in discussions about a new private funding round targeting that $1.2 trillion valuation. For context, the company raised $122 billion back in March, which resulted in an $852 billion post-money valuation at the time — meaning this potential new round would represent a jump of hundreds of billions of dollars in a remarkably short window. The talks remain early-stage and subject to change, the report noted. Notably, while OpenAI confidentially filed for an initial public offering back in June, CEO Sam Altman has since hinted that a public debut likely won't happen before 2027 — suggesting the company may prefer private capital to fuel its next chapter rather than rushing toward Wall Street.

Blackstone Doubles Down on Green Infrastructure

Private equity giant Blackstone is looking to raise $8 billion for its latest renewable energy and digital infrastructure-focused private credit strategy, according to a Tuesday Bloomberg report. This fourth iteration of its Green Infrastructure Credit Fund would extend loans to businesses spanning energy, security, power and utilities, data centers and semiconductor financing — sectors increasingly intertwined with the broader AI boom. The move reflects Blackstone's expanding bet on infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence, building on a previous fund that raised $7.1 billion back in 2023.

Starbucks Weighs Stepping Back in Japan

Coffee giant Starbucks is considering selling a majority stake in its Japanese business, in a deal that could value its largest overseas company-operated market at approximately $3 billion, according to a Wednesday Reuters report. Japan represents a significant piece of Starbucks' global footprint, with 1,883 stores accounting for nearly 9% of the company's worldwide presence as of September 2025. The company has reportedly solicited pitches from various financial advisers and remains open to selling a controlling interest in the business.

Kioxia Chases Deeper US Market Access

Japanese chipmaker Kioxia Holdings is reportedly looking to raise at least $10 billion by listing American depositary receipts, according to a Monday Bloomberg report. The company has been meeting with major lenders — including Bank of America, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan — about the potential listing. According to the report, Kioxia is specifically aiming to boost liquidity in the American market after previously raising billions of dollars in shares back in Japan. The offering could launch as early as next year.

J&J Weighs a $20 Billion Exit From Orthopedics

Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson is reportedly considering selling its hips-and-knees business, DePuy Synthes, to private equity firm Apollo Global Management for $20 billion, according to a Sunday Wall Street Journal report. J&J has been eyeing an exit from this orthopedics unit — which manufactures instruments for repairing bones and joints — for some time now. Last fall, the company signaled its intent to separate the unit into a standalone business, targeting completion within 18 to 24 months. J&J originally acquired bone-repair device maker Synthes for $21 billion back in 2012, later folding it into its existing DePuy business.

Kimberly-Clark Navigates EU Roadblocks

Kleenex maker Kimberly-Clark is preparing to offer concessions to address European Union antitrust concerns surrounding its planned $48.7 billion acquisition of Tylenol maker Kenvue, according to a Monday Reuters report. Kimberly-Clark first announced its plans to acquire Kenvue back in November. If completed, the deal would merge two companies behind an enormous roster of household names — Huggies, Scott and Kotex on the Kimberly-Clark side, paired with Neutrogena, Aveeno, Listerine and Tylenol from Kenvue. The European Commission is expected to formally notify Kimberly-Clark of its specific antitrust concerns this week, a step that will determine whether the company negotiates concessions during preliminary review or faces a full-scale investigation instead.

Vista Equity Weighs Finastra's Future

Private equity firm Vista Equity Partners is evaluating strategic options for its portfolio company Finastra, including a potential divestment or full sale, according to a Monday Reuters report. London-headquartered Finastra provides payments, lending and corporate banking software to banks and financial institutions worldwide. Vista is reportedly working with investment bankers at Morgan Stanley on the process, which remains in its early stages. Finastra has already drawn interest from other major players, including private equity giant Blackstone, though there's no guarantee the evaluation results in an actual transaction — the company could just as easily end up merging with or acquiring another industry competitor instead.
