ABB has agreed to acquire Netcontrol, a specialist in electrical grid automation, in a move likened by industry watchers to adding a digital nervous system to an already muscular power network.
The deal, advised by global law firm White & Case LLP, positions the Swiss-Swedish technology giant to sharpen its edge as utilities race to modernize aging power grids under mounting demand and climate pressures.
Expanding the Digital Backbone of Power Grids
Netcontrol provides advanced grid automation solutions used by power utilities and operators of critical infrastructure. By folding those capabilities into ABB’s portfolio, the company aims to strengthen offerings for customers grappling with the urgent need to digitalize electrical networks.
Global Growth Ambitions
ABB said Netcontrol’s established automation technology, combined with ABB’s scale and international footprint, opens fresh growth avenues across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Together, the companies are expected to help utilities better balance reliability, efficiency and the growing integration of renewable energy.
