Jones’ Final Hail Mary Falls Short
In what may have been his final legal lifeline, Jones petitioned the Connecticut Supreme Court to hear his appeal. But the justices—with only Justice Steven D. Ecker voicing support for hearing the case—turned it away. The court also denied a cross-appeal by the plaintiffs, who hoped to challenge the reduction in punitive damages under CUTPA.
That leaves the revised judgment of $1.29 billion in place.
Bankruptcy: A Last Line of Defense?
Following the massive verdict, Free Speech Systems, the parent company of Infowars, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2022. Jones followed with his own bankruptcy filing later that year. While these moves aimed to shield him from the financial fallout, the courts have continued to tighten the noose.
Despite bankruptcy protections, the court’s latest decision reinforces the overwhelming weight of the verdict hanging over Jones’ empire of disinformation.
