This year, the anti-human trafficking film Sound of Freedom brought much-needed attention to the buying and selling of human beings. The film has not only done well in the United States, but also in its release across other countries.

The film's inspiration is Tim Ballard, the founder and former CEO of anti-human trafficking organization Operation Underground Railroad (OUR).

Earlier this year, however, Ballard stepped down as OUR's CEO. At the same time, the anti-human trafficking organization also cancelled its annual, Utah-based Rise Up Get Loud event.

Despite the success of Sound of Freedom, Ballard is in the news for another reason. This time, it pertains to allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

What to know about the claims against Ballard

The former CEO of OUR stands accused of sexually harassing seven women during international sting operations.

During this time, Ballard is accused of sending women lewd images of himself undercover, pressuring them to shower and/or share beds with him, and using the goal of "saving children" to receive apparent sexual favors.

So far, reports from Vice state that after the women making these allegations filed formal complaints with OUR, Ballard left the organization.

OUR has not yet confirmed or denied these reports regarding Ballard's alleged actions. However, the anti-human trafficking group noted in a public statement that it has zero tolerance for discrimination, sexual abuse, or sexual harassment.

OUR also stated that it's acquired the services of an independent law firm to review and better its operations.

In addition to the reports of sexual misconduct, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also brought surprising allegations against Ballard.

It is the LDS Church's view that Ballard took advantage of M Russell Ballard, an elder of the church, by using his name in an unapproved manner for financial and/or personal reasons.

Ballard denies the claims

Amid these allegations, Tim Ballard has gone on record, citing his innocence. The former OUR CEO maintains the narratives about him now are "baseless inventions" designed to impugn his character.

Ballard likewise warned there's been a longstanding pattern of attacks against his integrity and who he is. Finally, the anti-human trafficking activist said all of this is happening to sabotage himself and the anti-child trafficking movement as a whole.
