Speaking to CBS News, he expressed his unwavering belief that Lynette is still alive and vowed to resume his search for her as soon as possible. “I won’t be able to stop looking,” he stated with palpable emotion. “Someone with more authority will have to tell me to stop.”

When asked directly if he believes Lynette is alive, Hooker replied simply, “I want to.”

Arrest and Release

Hooker, 59, was taken into custody by Bahamian authorities last Wednesday as part of their investigation into his wife's mysterious disappearance. His attorney, Terrel Butler, confirmed that Hooker has denied any wrongdoing and was released from custody on Monday night, five days after his detention.

Lynette Hooker, 55, has not been located, and the Royal Bahamas Police Force announced that search and rescue operations have shifted to search and recovery efforts. Despite the grim outlook, Brian Hooker remains optimistic, citing stories of others who have survived in the waters for days or even weeks. “I believe I’ve been told that people have lasted in the Bahamas after falling overboard,” he shared with CBS News.

“There are so many islands, so many sandbars, little atolls and spits of land,” he continued, grappling with the uncertainty of the situation. “Of course you think about alternatives to that, but I’m not really capable of just turning away from this.”

A Life on the Water

The couple, hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, are no strangers to the sea. Known for their passion for sailing, Brian revealed that he and Lynette had been navigating the waters together for over 12 years, fondly describing their partnership as “fantastic.” “We were more like co-captains,” he noted, emphasizing their teamwork in managing their 46-foot boat, aptly named Soulmate. “She’s our floating home,” he added, reflecting on their life aboard the vessel for the past four years.

On the evening of April 4, Hooker reported that Lynette had fallen from their 8-foot dinghy while they were sailing from Hope Town to Elbow Cay. He claimed that powerful currents swept her away along with the keys to their dinghy, cutting power to the engine and thwarting his attempts to reach her. After a harrowing night, Hooker paddled to the island of Abacoa, finally docking at Marsh Harbor Boat Yard around 4 a.m. on April 5, where he informed someone of his wife’s disappearance—a revelation that prompted authorities to be alerted.
