Family from Charleston, SC, Caught in the Bucks Co. Flooding
Upper Makefield Fire Chief Tim Brewer shared the heart-wrenching details of the event during a Sunday news conference. According to Brewer, the children were part of a family who had travelled from Charleston, South Carolina, for a visit.
En route to a barbecue, their journey was abruptly halted by the flash flood. The father, grandmother, and their four-year-old son escaped the floodwaters. However, the mother, who had the two younger children, was tragically swept away.
Five Victims Recovered, Search for Two Children Continues
Out of seven people initially reported missing after the Bucks Co. flooding, five have been recovered, including the mother. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the relentless search for the two children continues. “We continue to look for the two children. We are not going to give up, regardless,” Brewer said. “The weather is a factor, but at this point, we are going to continue the operation and set things in motion for tomorrow as well.”
Unprecedented Rainfall and Swift Rising Floodwaters
Brewer shared with reporters that the area received approximately six-and-a-half to seven inches of rain in a span of 45 minutes on Saturday. “In my 44 years, I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said. “When the water came up, it came up very swiftly. We do not think that anybody drove into it, that they were actively on that road when it happened.”
