On Monday, July 8, Hurricane Beryl ripped through the Houston, Texas area, knocking out power for millions of residents. Many Houstonians and folks in Greater Houston communities like Spring, Kingwood, and Humble, rely on CenterPoint Energy for electricity.
Unfortunately, restoring service is taking longer than people like or expected. Many power lines have to be pulled out of water; loose debris has to be collected and assessments of the damage have to take place before restoration.
The end result of this is many Houstonians going days on end with no power during Texas’ hottest season. On social media, folks have weighed in with their frustrations, noting their inability to get work done, preserve food in their refrigerators, or access air conditioning. The situation is especially taxing for people in Greater Houston who don’t own backup generators.
As the days pass, some individuals are going as far as threatening the CenterPoint line workers, prompting several responses from the company on social media.
A messy situation
On Friday afternoon, CenterPoint Energy took to Instagram, X, and Facebook, sharing several updates. The company stressed that it’s aware of public upset and has crews working hard to get electricity up and running.
