Congressman Darrell Issa sided with the parents and the school board, urging Governor Newsom to “stop bullying Temecula.”
Response of the Temecula Valley School Board President
Joseph Komrosky, TVUSD Board President, had been publicly clashing with the governor over the Temecula Valley school controversy. Post the fine imposition, Komrosky expressed that the district was still working on the 2023-2024 curriculum. He criticized the governor for intervening without first understanding the district’s plans to address all student curriculum needs.
In a statement, Komrosky claimed, “What he calls inaction we see as responsible considerations for all of our community’s viewpoints…” He also announced a special board meeting to reconsider the curriculum to meet state and federal mandates.
The Emergence of a Resolution
Friday’s meeting commenced with a vote to maintain the district’s existing 17-year-old curriculum, which included 2006 textbooks. The night concluded with a final vote, the third one in the past two months, to adopt the new curriculum. The Temecula Valley school board still plans to consider replacing the mention of Milk while ensuring the state’s requirements are met.
