Feds Drop Appeal In Trump Classified Info Case

Federal prosecutors informed the Eleventh Circuit on Wednesday that they are officially dropping the case against former co-defendants in the classified documents case tied to President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. The move signals the end of the legal battle over the allegedly illegal retention of sensitive government materials.

In a filing, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) requested to dismiss the appeal with prejudice, solidifying the decision to abandon charges against Trump’s former valet, Walt Nauta, and former Mar-a-Lago property manager, Carlos de Oliveira. This follows an earlier dismissal of the case against Trump after his victory in the November presidential election.

DOJ Reverses Course After Trump Case Dismissal

While former special counsel Jack Smith had already withdrawn the charges against Trump, the DOJ had initially suggested it would continue prosecuting Nauta and de Oliveira. However, the government has now chosen to drop the appeal entirely, bringing the case to a close.
