Feud Between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun

  • June 2019 – Scooter Braun acquires Big Machine Label Group, gaining control of Swift’s masters. She was notified that she could not perform her own music without permission.
  • June 2019 – Swift speaks out, calling the situation “manipulative” and her “worst-case scenario.”
  • November 2020 – Braun sells the masters to Shamrock Capital, allegedly for over $300 million (Yahoo).
  • 2021–2023 – Swift releases re-recorded albums (Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and 1989 (Taylor’s Version). As the songwriter and performer of the modified new releases, she hoped fans would listen to Taylor’s Version instead of the masters held by Shamrock.
  • March 2023- December 2024--The Eras Tour began in Glendale, Arizona, and ended in Vancouver, Canada. Spanning 149 shows in 51 cities across five continents, it became the highest-grossing tour of all time. and the first to earn over $2 billion in revenue.
  • May 30, 2025 – Swift announces she has bought back the master recordings from Shamrock Capital.

On Friday, Taylor explained that she set out on the Eras Tour to gain control of her life’s work, which was effectively taken over by Braun when he gained control of her master recordings. 

Braun Responds 

Braun, now 43, offered a brief and surprisingly gracious comment following Swift’s announcement: “I am happy for her,” he told The Independent.
