The 57-page indictment detailed accusations that Adams received over $100,000 in undisclosed luxury gifts and travel in exchange for political favors.

The DOJ’s decision to dismiss the case followed an intervention by Judge Ho, who appointed former U.S. Solicitor General Paul Clement as a “friend of the court.”

Clement was tasked with evaluating the DOJ’s request, since the initial hearing did not include any opposition arguments.

In his filing, Clement argued that the case should be dismissed with prejudice to avoid any perception that Adams remained under political pressure.

The dismissal effectively ends the legal uncertainty that has surrounded Adams since September.

Reactions to the Dismissal

Adams’ attorney, Alex Spiro, welcomed the ruling, stating:

“The case against Eric Adams should have never been brought in the first place—and finally today, that case is gone forever. From Day 1, the mayor has maintained his innocence, and now justice for Eric Adams and New Yorkers has prevailed.”
