The Clinton Email Connection Resurfaces
The potential legal and political connection between the Russia collusion narrative and the Clinton email scandal is emerging as a central theme in the Bondi-ordered investigation.
According to recently declassified portions of the John Durham Special Counsel report—specifically an appendix that had previously been withheld from the public—the FBI received intelligence in 2016 suggesting that Clinton’s campaign had developed a plan to “vilify” Donald Trump by linking him to Russia. Critics allege this strategy was intended, in part, to divert attention from the fallout over Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving as Secretary of State—a controversy that included allegations of mishandling classified information, deleting subpoenaed emails, and physically destroying mobile devices.
The most infamous examples of potential evidence destruction included reports of staffers smashing old cellphones with hammers and using “BleachBit” software to wipe email servers clean after a congressional subpoena had been issued.
