The murder trial of Bryan Kohberger, charged with the brutal killing of four University of Idaho students in November 2022, has pivoted its focus towards investigative genetic genealogy (IGG) evidence. 

Kohberger's attorneys have pressed for access to the sealed IGG evidence. They are invoking their client's 6th Amendment right to effective assistance of counsel. 

The defense has also emphasized the need to audit the police investigation. They want specifics of how and when Kohberger surfaced as a suspect. And are focused on the pivotal role of IGG evidence in shaping the case against him.

IGG combines DNA analysis with genealogical research, enabling investigators to trace a suspect's familial lineage. This process typically involves uploading DNA profiles to public databases like GEDmatch, leveraging familial connections to identify potential suspects.

The Kohberger Case
