One investor from Washington, D.C. has received national certification out of a lawsuit against Zillow Group Inc, claiming the company wrongly led customers worried about its home-flipping service, Zillow Offers.A federal judge in Washington, U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Zilly, made a statement on Friday: naming Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro Biltekoff LLP as lead counsel and Kessler Topaz Meltzer L. Clay LLP as local counsel; this includes appointing Jeremy Jaeger as class representative and announcing his decision.

According to the lawsuit, Zillow executives chose not to adjust their home-purchase pricing model for changes in the 2021 housing market. They thereby caused substantial financial losses for many people. Jaeger, who purchased Zillow stock between August 5 and November 2, 2021, asked for class certification in March.Zillow disagreed.

It maintained in submissions to the court that Jaeger was unrepresentative simply because he did not meet the typicality and predominance requirements outlined by law school.Still, Judge Zilly replied to Zillow’s arguments. He pointed out that Jaeger’s stock purchases after disclosure were not inappropriate given his role as a lead plaintiff; and Zilly noted Jaeger bought the stock at lower prices because he remains confident in Zillow’s long term prospects, not out of contradiction with the lawsuit allegations.
