On a recent trip to downtown Jacksonville, Vice President Kamala Harris firmly rejected new curriculum standards she characterized as “swapping history for falsehoods,” amplifying the discord over America’s historical education.

Kamala Harris Decries “A National Agenda”

Addressing a packed crowd at the Ritz Theatre and Museum in LaVilla, a historically significant Black neighborhood in Jacksonville, Kamala Harris expressed her belief that Florida’s situation wasn’t isolated. “This isn’t just about Florida; there’s a broader national agenda at play,” stated the Vice President.

Harris used her platform to critique policies implemented by Governor Ron DeSantis’s administration that refute what he calls “woke ideology.” In her view, these actions by the Republican Governor dangerously deviate from conventional wisdom.

Education Changes Meet Resistance

The catalyst for Kamala Harris’s visit to Jacksonville was the alteration to African American history courses for K-12 students by the Florida Board of Education. One contentious modification, which both civil rights groups and Harris herself have decried, included a provision for middle school students to comprehend how “slaves developed skills which, at times, could serve their personal benefit.”
