A consortium spearheaded by private equity titan KKR has reportedly cashed out of a luxury Hyatt Regency hotel in Tokyo for more than $800 million, according to a Nov. 24 Wall Street Journal report. The deal, completed quietly in August, transferred the stake to an undisclosed buyer.

KKR and co-investor Gaw Capital acquired the property in 2023 at an undisclosed price, but the WSJ notes the recent sale “likely yielded twice the amount originally invested.” The Hyatt Regency Tokyo, with more than 700 rooms, sits in one of the capital’s busiest commercial districts and has long been considered a crown jewel of the city’s hospitality sector.

Blackstone Weighs Scrapping Bid for Big Yellow Group

Private equity heavyweight Blackstone is reportedly considering dropping its pursuit of British self-storage operator Big Yellow Group, per a Monday Sky News report.

Big Yellow extended Blackstone’s deadline to present a formal takeover offer until Dec. 8, giving the firm more time to decide whether to commit or retreat. Blackstone disclosed in mid-October that its affiliates were “considering their position,” which included a potential cash offer for the company’s entire issued share capital.

BHP Withdraws £40B Anglo American Offer After Rebuff

Mining giant BHP Group reportedly submitted a £40 billion ($53 billion) takeover proposal for rival Anglo American PLC, according to Bloomberg. The “detailed proposal,” delivered in late November, valued shares at roughly £34 apiece in what sources described as a “mostly stock” deal.

Anglo’s board rejected the bid, Bloomberg reported. BHP subsequently confirmed the talks but said it ultimately chose to walk away. Neither company has publicly confirmed the exact value of the proposed offer.

Anthropic Retains WSGR for Long-Awaited IPO Push

AI startup Anthropic has tapped Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati PC to lead its legal strategy for a long-anticipated IPO, The Financial Times reported Wednesday. The public debut could arrive as early as 2026, as the San Francisco-based AI developer races rival OpenAI to the markets.

Anthropic is allegedly exploring a fresh private fundraising round that could push its valuation beyond $300 billion. Discussions with investment banks, however, remain “preliminary and informal,” the report said.
