The Alleged Murderer 

The arrest of Jose Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan citizen, shed light on the heinous circumstances surrounding Riley’s death. Charged in connection with the murder, Ibarra faced accusations of disfiguring Riley’s skull and impeding her ability to seek help by physically hindering her from making a 911 call.

Despite not being a student at the university and allegedly having no prior acquaintance with Riley, Ibarra found himself at the center of a nationwide outcry for justice.

Brothers of the Accused

Diego Ibarra, the brother of the alleged murderer, has been arrested on a counterfeiting charge related to fake immigration documents.

Although not directly linked to Riley’s slaying, both Ibarra’s brothers are currently in jail.

A third brother in Lumpkin County is also in a prison. All three brothers entered the U.S. illegally from Venezuela, according to federal authorities.
