Major Energy Drink Recall Sparks Legal Concerns Over Unintentional Alcohol Consumption
The recall centers on a catastrophic error at a shared packaging supplier that serves both Celsius Holdings Inc. and High Noon Spirits, owned by E. & J. Gallo Winery. According to official statements, the supplier mistakenly shipped empty Celsius cans to High Noon’s facility, where they were filled with alcoholic vodka seltzer instead of the expected energy drink formula.
This unprecedented mix-up means consumers purchasing what they believe to be non-alcoholic Celsius Astro Vibe Energy Drink (Sparkling Blue Razz Edition) may instead be consuming High Noon’s alcoholic beverage, which typically contains 4.5% alcohol by volume.
Multi-State Distribution Creates Widespread Risk
The contaminated products reached distributors across Florida, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin before being shipped to retailers in Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin. This extensive distribution network means thousands of consumers across these states could potentially be affected.
