Emergency Declarations Across the Region

New Jersey has also declared a state of emergency as forecasters predict severe blizzard conditions statewide. Residents have been advised to stay off roads from Sunday through Monday unless travel is absolutely necessary.

Parts of southern New England are also under blizzard warnings for the first time in several years. Boston and surrounding communities are expected to experience intense snowfall Sunday night into Monday afternoon, along with strong gusts and reduced visibility.

Rapidly Strengthening Storm System

Weather experts say the storm intensified quickly after earlier forecasts suggested it might be less severe. Current projections indicate that many areas could receive between one and two feet of snow, especially in coastal and northern sections of the Northeast.

Snowfall rates could reach one to two inches per hour during peak periods, with even heavier bursts possible overnight Sunday. Winds between 25 and 35 miles per hour are expected, creating blowing snow and hazardous conditions.

In addition to snow, some coastal regions may face minor flooding due to a combination of strong winds and precipitation. Downed tree limbs and scattered power outages are also possible because of heavy snow accumulation.
