A Timeline of Accusations
The charges are rooted in a September 2023 investigation by Channel 4 and The Times of London, whose documentary prompted dozens of viewers to contact police. Among them were four women whose allegations now form the backbone of the Crown’s criminal complaint. The accusations are severe and graphic:
- One woman claims Brand raped her in Bournemouth in 1999.
- Another alleges indecent assault in London’s Westminster area in 2001.
- A third says she was orally raped and sexually assaulted in 2004, also in Westminster.
- A fourth alleges further sexual assault between 2004 and 2005 in the same region.
The charges remain allegations. The accusers have not been publicly identified.
A More Recent Accusation Raises Legal Stakes
Beyond the core charges now facing Brand in the UK, a fifth and potentially more damning accusation stems from 2012. One woman featured in the September 2023 Times of London 90-minute documentary; alleges she was underage, 16 at the time she was engaged in an “emotionally and sexually abusive relationship” with Brand, who was in his 30s.
Another woman alleged that Russell Brand raped her at his Los Angeles residence in 2012.
Brand denied these allegations, saying that he was “very, very promiscuous” but that his relationships were “absolutely, always consensual.”
If these claims lead to criminal charges in the U.S., Brand could face legal jeopardy on both sides of the Atlantic. However, as of this writing, no U.S. indictments have been filed.
