Tillman, who serves as global director for the Harold Washington Cultural Center, emphasizes a crucial fact that undermines the entire premise of Sharpe and Johnson’s commentary: she “was not married at the time of the fan participation moment during the Usher concert.” This single mother took extraordinary steps to combat what she viewed as damaging falsehoods, including appearing on national media programs to publicly refute the marriage and divorce allegations.

Persistent Misinformation Despite Corrections

Despite Tillman’s proactive efforts to set the record straight, the lawsuit alleges that the defendants continued their pattern of harmful behavior. “The defendants continued to post the defamatory content across their social media platforms,” the complaint states. “I made numerous efforts to contact the defendants to request the removal of this false narrative, but these requests were disregarded.”

The legal filing reveals a troubling pattern of disregard for accuracy that Tillman’s legal team argues rises to the level of reckless conduct. “The defendants’ false narratives were shared widely across their platforms, reaching millions of followers, viral spread and refutation efforts, despite my clear and public reputation of the false narrative,” according to court documents.
