South Korean Flood: Death Toll Mounts as Continuous Rainfall Triggers Havoc

In a Sunday news release, President Yoon also voiced his concerns about local government preparedness, particularly in regards to preventing access to low-lying areas susceptible to flooding.

The South Korean flood event marks the second year in a row of severe flooding associated with the annual monsoon season. Last August witnessed the death of at least 11 people, including vulnerable residents of semi-underground apartments in Seoul.

South Korean Flood: Recent Flooding Events

Recent flood events are not confined to South Korea. A series of similar disasters has been reported globally, with serious and deadly flooding incidents in Japan, India, and the Northeastern United States.

Overnight deluges in Vermont and New York, and a catastrophic flood in Pennsylvania that claimed five lives, echo the tragedies unfolding in South Korea. Japan and northern India also reported fatalities, with at least three and 100 deaths respectively this month.
