Trump To Return To NYC

Former President Donald Trump is poised to make a dramatic comeback to lower Manhattan next week, where he'll face his high-stakes fraud trial. The trial is set to become a riveting courtroom spectacle, featuring his former lawyer turned nemesis, Michael Cohen, who is expected to take the stand as the star cooperating witness for New York State Attorney General Letitia James.

The Much-Anticipated Return

Sources with knowledge of Trump's security arrangements have revealed that he is scheduled to appear at the 60 Centre St. courthouse on Tuesday, Wednesday, and possibly Thursday, as per Law360 insiders. During these days, Cohen, the former president's ex-fix-it man, is lined up to testify.

"It's been five long years since we've seen one another," Cohen remarked upon hearing the news. "Assuming I am even on to testify next week, I look forward to the reunion. I hope Donald does as well."

Cohen's testimony is expected to delve into meetings with Trump and former Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer, Allen Weisselberg, concerning the alleged inflated financial statements.

Trump's legal team has yet to comment on the upcoming trial.

Trump To Return To NYC :  A Damning Precedent

Justice Arthur Engoron of New York County Supreme Court has already dealt a significant blow to Trump and his associates. He found them liable for a decade-long fraud scheme based on compelling documentary evidence prior to the non-jury trial. The judge is currently navigating the second week of testimony, determining whether to exile the Trump family from New York's business landscape or impose substantial financial penalties, with the state seeking to reclaim a minimum of $250 million in illicit gains.

An appeals court has temporarily halted the judge's actions to dissolve Trump's companies while an appeal of the summary judgment ruling is underway.

Weisselberg's Hot Seat

Weisselberg, the former Trump Organization CFO, faced another round of intense questioning on Thursday, focusing on his prior tax fraud conviction and the reasons behind ongoing payments from the Trump Organization. The Attorney General's Office probed Weisselberg on whether it was merely a coincidence that he was being paid nearly $2 million, almost mirroring the sum he had to pay due to his guilty plea.

Weisselberg responded curtly with "Coincidence."

The contract included a clause preventing Weisselberg from cooperating with claims against the company or assisting in any proceedings against the company. When asked if this barred him from voluntarily cooperating with the attorney general, Weisselberg admitted he hadn't thought much about it but ultimately indicated he would not assist the attorney general.

The Trump-Bank Saga Continues

Earlier in the day, Deutsche Bank's risk manager, Nicholas Haigh, endured intense cross-examination by Trump's legal team. They sought to cast doubt on the notion that the banks were deceived by Trump's financial statements, emphasizing the adjustments made to his stated worth before loan approvals.

Trump's attorney, Jesus Suarez, meticulously combed through years of credit memos signed by Haigh, approving hundreds of millions of dollars in loans. Suarez highlighted that there were no missed payments and that Trump's loans remained in good standing.

Justice Engoron expressed fatigue with the repetitive questioning, stating that it was redundant and the documents were self-explanatory.

Trump To Return To NYC : The Final Witness

The last witness to take the stand was Patrick Birney, who joined the Trump Organization in 2015 and calculated Trump's net worth and asset values from 2016 to 2021. Despite his significant role, Birney claimed he had no understanding of the requisite accounting standards and didn't make the final decisions on the calculations and assumptions.

Ultimately, Birney testified that Allen Weisselberg had the authority to approve everything.

A Grueling Battle Continues

As the trial unfolds, the Attorney General's Office argues that the valuation process was grossly inflated, while Trump's defense team highlights their client's importance to the bank and their rigorous analysis.

The high-stakes trial is poised to be a sensational courtroom showdown as Donald Trump returns to the heart of New York City.
