In September 2023, prosecutors in Clark County, Nevada indicted Duane Keith “Keffe D” Davis for the murder of Tupac Shakur, who was killed in a 1996 drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.

Nearly three decades later, the case that shocked the music industry is finally heading to trial, with Davis accused of orchestrating the attack that ended the life of one of hip-hop’s most influential artists.

The Indictment Against Keffe D

Prosecutors allege that Davis, a leader of the South Side Crips street gang in Compton, California, ordered the hit on Shakur. Gang warfare resulted in a violent confrontation outside a Las Vegas boxing match.

Although Davis did not pull the trigger, officials say he facilitated the ambush by providing direction to his associates.

They cite Davis’ own words in interviews and in his memoir, where he described details of the shooting. Davis now claims those accounts were “entertainment” rather than confessions. He has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial, which is scheduled for February 2026.
